Marcia Marcus est une
artiste américaine née en 1928 à New York. Elle est diplômée de
l'Université de New York, de la Cooper Union et de l'Art Students
League de New York. En 1962 elle bénéficie d'une bourse d'étude
(la prestigieuse bourse Fulbright) ce qui lui permet de venir étudier
un an en France. Outre sa carrière de peintre très active, Marcia
Marcus a été enseignante dans de nombreuses institutions.
Les œuvres de Marcia
Marcus sont assez reconnaissables de son époque. Elle utilise les
aplats et les couleurs complémentaires pour renforcer un trait
minimaliste, voire inexistant. Il y a beaucoup de finesse dans ses
portraits, beaucoup d'élégance.

Love the works of this painter so much, because I love the paintings with the black people, especially women, Lois Mailou Jones is my favourite painter and the Harlem Renaissance is my favourite movement in art. And I have some artists for you: Silvia Braganca (Mozambique), Safia Farhat (Tunisia), Phindile Mamba (Swaziland), Fineza Teta (Angola), Therese Glaesener-Hartmann (Luxembourg) and some African American artists - Clementine Hunter, Adrian Piper, Gwendolyn Knight, Mequitta Ahuja, Thelma Johnson Street.
